After completing his training at Mayo Clinic, Paul Cusick, MD began his practice of ophthalmology in 1948 near Providence Hospital in Detroit as one of the country's first Board-certified Ophthalmologists. His practice garnered further attention when he became the first ophthalmologist to perform cataract surgery on television. He was later joined by Michael J. Michael, MD and, subsequently, several other notable ophthalmologists. Optometrists were employed to serve a budding contact lens practice.
When Providence Hospital moved to the suburbs, the office followed. We initially opened in Southfield and later expanded to Royal Oak and Novi. Currently, we serve our patients in areas surrounding our Southfield and Novi offices. Surgical procedures are performed in Providence Hospital, Southfield, and Providence Park Outpatient Surgical Center, Novi, as well as Straith Hospital and Novi Surgery Center.
With a philosophy based on responsibility and respect, our team shares in the commitment, responsibility, and discipline required to run a successful organization. In our operations, we set realistic goals and expectations but are aggressive in reaching our objectives. We see a physician's time with a patient as a valuable resource and encourage our doctors to efficiently use this time in a personal way. With this personalized approach, we hope to achieve greater patient loyalty and increased referrals.
Each one of our employees represents our entire organization, and we take care to ensure that they are enhancing our reputation. From physicians to clerical workers, we strive to hire individuals who possess exceptional qualities and then provide additional customer relations and services training as necessary. Policies and processes are in place to enable our team to work together efficiently to contribute to the overall quality of patient care. The result of our team's collaboration is a gratifying working environment for our employees that contributes to our excellent customer service and improved patients' confidence.
